Oversight of compounding pharmacies in the news

Graphic image of mortar, pill box, pillsIn light of the devastating effects of a compounding pharmacy’s violation of purity standards and distribution regulations, we’d like to direct your attention to a couple of articles about one state’s regulation of compounding pharmacies.

One author says that Oklahoma has some of the strictest compounding pharmacy laws in the country.

For example, for over 40 years,Oklahoma pharmacists have been required to take continuing education classes in order to renew their licenses.

The executive director of the Oklahoma Pharmacists Association believes Oklahoma has been ahead of the curve when it comes to protecting consumers.

Earlier this year, we wrote a series of blogs on the guidelines included in Oklahoma’s Pharmacy Law. We noted the presence of international standards.

An additional good resource out of Oklahoma is a poster-size list of good compounding techniques from the International Journal of Compounding Pharmacies.
