C<\/b>atherine\u2019s online presence is one of happy and intense experimentation with traditional and new media.<\/p>\n

\"Four<\/a>She exhibits no fear, only interest, in the face of new materials and techniques.<\/p>\n

Both her Facebook page and her blog reveal an artist who doesn\u2019t hold back, an artist who finds great joy in the act of making and sharing what she\u2019s learned.<\/p>\n

Pendants, rings, beads \u2013 they all display the confident exploration of an artist for whom making art leads to happiness.<\/p>\n

A wake-up call<\/b><\/p>\n

A couple of years ago, Catherine was on the receiving end of a wake-up call.<\/p>\n

She was doing a lot of soldering and using resins, spending many hours each day in her studio.<\/p>\n

She became alarmed when red spots began to appear on her stomach and legs, prompting her to see a specialist.<\/p>\n

Although it couldn\u2019t be determined precisely what had caused the spots, the specialist said that she must have been exposed to more toxins than her\u00a0body could handle.<\/p>\n

Catherine said that when you\u2019re ardently involved in the process of making art, you don\u2019t always think about potential health hazards.<\/p>\n

She resolved to change her approach, beginning with ventilation.<\/p>\n

\"Sentry<\/a>Place of honor<\/b><\/p>\n

Catherine purchased a Winged Sentry SS-200-WS<\/a> for her studio.<\/p>\n

Because the fume extractor makes a marked difference in the indoor-air quality of her studio, she says it occupies a place of honor.<\/p>\n

In the photo the right, you see the fume extractor on a workbench in Catherine\u2019s studio.<\/p>\n

[She also calls it \u201cthe awesome Sentry Air unit.\u201d We heart her for that.]<\/p>\n

Physically, the unit\u2019s \u2018place of honor\u2019 changes with Catherine\u2019s work flow.<\/p>\n

She loves that it\u2019s easily moved to exactly where it needs to be.<\/p>\n

Catherine recently finished these earrings, which are based on a design she saw on an ancient gold bracelet. They are made of sterling silver sheet metal, coiled sterling wire and brown pearls.<\/p><\/div>\n
