What are specialty-blended activated carbon filters?<\/h3>\n

Specialty-blended activated carbon filters are activated carbon that has been treated or impregnated with proprietary reagents to improve the adsorption or removal of a specific chemical fume from the airflow. Chemicals such as formaldehyde have a smaller molecular size which can slip through carbon\u2019s pores without being properly adsorbed and can quickly saturate standard carbon filters leading to frequent filter changes (Kaibo 2022)<\/a>. Aldehyde treated activated carbon helps improve the adsorption of formaldehyde and other aldehydes due to its unique design and treatment process.<\/p>\n

What types of specialty-blended activated carbon filters are available? <\/h2>\n

Acid Gases<\/h4>\n

Acid Gases<\/p><\/div>Acid Gas impregnated activated carbon filters offer solutions for working with hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and nitric acid. Acid gases have a strong acidic nature and do not readily react to standard activated carbon. Once treated, acid gas impregnated carbon can help protect the operator and environment from inhaling harmful chemical fumes. We tested the acid gas impregnated filter media in our 30\u201d Ductless Fume Hood<\/a> using sulfur dioxide and found the filter offered a 99.89% removal rate. Likewise, we conducted a similar test with hydrochloric acid vapors and produced >99.99% removal rate with no detectable hydrochloric acid vapors after filtration. Aldehydes<\/p><\/div>Aldehyde treated activated carbon can help remove aldehyde impurities from a natural gas stream and help protect the surrounding environment. Formaldehyde fumes from painting or restoration processes can be readily adsorbed utilizing aldehyde impregnated filter media. We tested our aldehyde treated filter media in our Winged Sentry unit<\/a> and found a removal rate of >99.3%. We conducted the same test using our standard activated carbon filter and found only a 95.45% removal rate. The aldehyde treated activated carbon filters exhibited a much higher removal rate than standard activated carbon filter media.
