Cr(VI) fume is easily generated during welding applications, particularly on stainless steel.<\/p>\n<p>Because of stringent exposure limits to hex chrome fume in the workplace, we sought to test the efficiency of our Sentry Air cleanable Micro-Pleat Series filter media against Cr(VI) fume during a MIG welding application.<\/p>\n<p>The entire test procedure and findings are linked at the end of this blog post.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Findings\/Results<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Samples from the test were couriered to a third party analytical lab. Their results are noted in the below tables.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sentryair.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/hex-chrome-table.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-82722 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sentryair.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/hex-chrome-table-1024x554.jpg\" alt=\"SAS Hex Chrome Cleanable Media Results\" width=\"680\" height=\"368\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sentryair.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/hex-chrome-table-1024x554.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.sentryair.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/hex-chrome-table-300x162.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.sentryair.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/hex-chrome-table-500x270.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px\" \/><\/a>\n<p>As the tables denote, <b>the Sentry Air cleanable Micro-Pleat Series filter had a 97% efficiency rating for Cr(VI) fume.*<\/b><\/p>\n<p><i>*For this test, the micro-pleat series filter was placed inside of a Sentry Air Model 450 Welding Fume Extractor. Efficiency was determined by comparing the inlet and outlet samples taken on the Sentry Air welding fume extractor. Results showed a filter efficiency of 99.9%*<\/p>\n<p><i>*For this test, the Model 300 Welding Fume Extractor was equipped with a carbon pre-filter and HEPA main filter. Efficiency was determined by comparing the inlet and outlet samples taken on the Sentry Air welding fume extractor. Results were <\/i><i>based upon the testing conditions that were present, actual results may vary.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>The fundamental difference between this test and our most recent test is the filter media that was used.<\/p>\n<p>The 2007 test used a carbon pre-filter with HEPA main filter; both non-cleanable filter media.<\/p>\n<p>Conversely, the most recent test used our micro-pleat series cleanable filter media.<\/p>\n<p>Based upon the results from both hexavalent chromium tests, the following reasonable conclusion can be made:<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; <em>The effective application of Sentry Air&#8217;s cleanable and non-cleanable filter media &#8211; in accordance to the aforementioned equipment and test conditions &#8211; for the welding of chromium containing alloys may reduce operator exposure to Cr(IV) fume to an acceptable sub-action level range.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The results presented in both hex chrome tests are based upon testing conditions that were present. Actual results may vary.
